Overview
Milpitas Elementary Science Olympiad (MESO) is an Olympic style competition organized by Milpitas High School students each year.
Includes 15 events that covers all fields of STEM (biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, technology, earth science, inquiry, and nature of science).
Events can include hands-on activities, written exams, and team-based challenges that test students' knowledge and skills in subjects like biology, chemistry, physics, and engineering.
Groups of 2 or 3 students from the team participate in each event.
Teams are scored based on their individual performance in each event, and the team with the best (lowest) overall score wins. (Placements are added up. Ex: First place would be equivalent to 1 point added to a team's score).
Each school can have multiple participating teams.

A team consists of
1 head coach approved by the school's principal
Assistant coaches (optional)
Up to 15 students from grades 1st to 6th
No more than six 6th graders

Team Requirements
The head coach needs to get approval from your school to participate and represent your school. Please contact Ms. Sainten (gsainten@musd.org) and Sinnott PTA (president@sinnottpta.org) if you are interested in forming a team from the school.
The registration fee is $225 per team. Sinnott PTA can help sponsor the team registration for up to three Sinnott teams (first come, first served).
Participants cannot include 6th graders that have competed in a Division B competition.

2024 Milpitas Elementary Science Olympiad
2024 Milpitas Elementary Science Olympiad
Vihana G. (Grade 6) and Hrisha G. (Grade 4), participated in the 2024 Milpitas Elementary Science Olympiad held on May 25, 2024 at the Milpitas High School. There were total of 25 teams that participated and the first 5 ranked participants got awarded in each event category. Vihana got an award in Ecology (5th place) and Hrisha won two awards for Map it out (2nd place) and Experimental Design (3rd place). As a team Hogwart Wizards (mix of Mattos, Sinnott and Pomeroy kids) won a total of 5 awards. Congratulations to the team!
2023 Milpitas Elementary Science Olympiad
2023 Milpitas Elementary Science Olympiad
A team of 11 students (Sinnott Scientists) represented John Sinnott Elementary school at the 2023 Milpitas Elementary Science Olympiad held on May 23, 2023 at the Milpitas High School.
Kids participated in teams of 2 or 3 in a total of 13 events focused on a wide range of topics. This was an excellent experience for the kids to explore different areas of science in a fun way, and they worked with focus and enthusiasm over the last few weeks!
As an icing on the cake, our students placed within the top 5 in 9 of the events, and the team placed 2nd among all the teams that competed! Congratulations and kudos to all the participants!
