Volunteer Training and Sign-up for 2024-25, is now open; Details below!

Science is Elementary (SiE), a non-profit organization, provides inspiring, innovative, high-quality science experiences to the elementary school children who need them most. Please join your beloved Sinnott PTA and SiE in the third year of this exciting hands-on practical science program for kids of Grade (TK-3).

After a successful 2023-24 science program at Sinnott, SiE (Science is Elementary) is bringing back more fun and learning for Sinnott kids, parents, and volunteers. In order for all kids to get the full benefit and learning from these hands-on activities, SiE relies on parent volunteers to assist once-a-month in the classrooms. Kudos to all parent volunteers who have made this program a success over the last two years!

SiE relies on parent volunteers to assist once a month in the classroom so that our kids get the full benefit of these hands-on activities. So please participate as a volunteer and help out.

Please note the below important information about volunteer sign up and mandatory annual training:

This in-person mandatory training is for parents who have never volunteered with Science is Elementary. For parents who have volunteered with Science is Elementary before, we will conduct a zoom training. Detailed information about that will be shared with existing volunteers soon.

Thank you so much for all your help! We are looking forward to meeting all of you in the school.

“Mind-bloeing [sic] science” – SiE Kindergartener

What is the SiE Yearlong Program?

The Yearlong Program is an inquiry-based, experiential program that integrates science and engineering with literacy.

Who created this program?

All SiE programming is created by scientists and science educators. Some even have PhDs in science.

Who teaches this program?

Our experienced educators are scientists and engineers who love teaching in elementary schools. They team up with three to four volunteers per class to ensure that all students’ voices are heard and all experiences are honored, in small group interactions.

How often do you visit classrooms?

Each classroom is visited by the same team of dedicated educators and volunteers monthly (September to May) to develop strong mentoring relationships and deepen students’ fascination with science. Our educators and are passionate and enthusiastic about science and that enthusiasm is infectious!

More about the Yearlong Program:

Do we need to recruit volunteers?

Yes. Ideally we need three volunteers per classroom, with four in kindergarten. We will recruit community volunteers. Sign up now!
